DESCRIPTION

The Teide volcano, protected natural space in the category of Natural Monument (without a doubt, the most emblematic of the archipelago), is the main tourist attraction of Tenerife. Although it is visible from different parts of the island, if you want to admire all its majesty, it is necessary to get to Las Cañadas. Its height (3,718 meters) makes Tenerife the tenth highest island in the world. Guanches called this volcano Echeide, the result of a legend whose meaning is "home of Guayota, the demon of evil". Its last major eruption was in 1798.

In addition, the national park in which it is located is the most visited of the four that the Canary Islands has. A World Heritage Site since 2007, Teide National Park has received numerous distinctions in recent years, such as the Environment Prize in 1995 or the Council of Europe Diploma in Conservation (1989, 1994, 1999, 2004). Its natural landscape is made up of Llano de Ucanca, Alto de Guajara, Siete Cañadas, Roques de García, Fortaleza and Pico Viejo. After Mount Fuji in Japan, it is the most visited volcanic site in the world.

Among the endemic flora of this tourist magnet and natural symbol of the archipelago, Las Cañadas rockrose, the Guanche rose, Teide wallflower, the broom and Teide violet stand out. The fauna that frequents its contours is also quite diverse: hoopoe, little owl, kestrel, blackbird, pipit beetle ...
