DESCRIPTION
This tour is the best option to discover on a single day the natural variety of the Tenerife landscapes -which hypnotize for their diversity–, the particularity of its microclimates, the history, tradition and architecture of the Canary Islands or the marked north-south contrast. This route allows you to admire Los Gigantes cliffs, the ancient dragon tree of Icod de los Vinos or La Orotava. The tour ends in Candelaria. In addition, there will be other stops where you can take pictures during the tour.
The impressive vertical walls of dark lava of Los Gigantes Cliffs reach 300-600 meters high. This basaltic volcanic geological accident on the west coast of the island was called "the wall of hell" by the Guanches, perhaps, due to the incomparable characteristics of its walls. In addition, the seabed of this part of Tenerife is home to a natural wealth that attracts fishermen and divers.
Declared a National Monument in 1917, the enormous specimen of dragon tree that we find in Icod de los Vinos is18 meters high, and its perimeter reaches 20 meters at the base of the trunk. In its adjacent park, inaugurated in 1996, various endemic plant species of the island are exhibited, such as cardons, tabaibas, palm trees and lime trees.
Located on the slopes of Mount Teide, La Orotava occupies a large part of the valley of the same name in the north of the island. Much of the Teide National Park - mountain and site of Aboriginal worship - belongs to its municipality, making it the highest in Spain. Among the places of interest that can be visited in this city are: Iglesia de la Concepción (declared a National Monument), La Casa de los Balcones -a typical Canarian house from the 17th century - or Liceo de Taoro.
Candelaria is the seat of the Virgin of Candelaria, patron saint of the Canary Islands, distinguished sacred and pilgrimage site of the country located to the southeast of the island. Its patron saint festivities take place on August 15 and take place around the Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria (1959), a Site of Cultural Interest and one of the main temples of the archipelago. Next to the basilica, the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias houses, the bronze statues of the nine menceyes who ruled the nine menceyatos or Guanche prehistoric kingdoms of Tenerife just before the conquest.
